In the meantime, after years of using OS X Server DNS, I will return to using /etc/hosts like a god damned caveman, because it works.

Like lots of people I suppose, I think of who I was and what I posted more than a year or two ago to be, on average, a little cringe. More than five years old? A little embarassing. Ten or more years old? A little shameful. On average, of course. So it goes.
